A segue gives direction for a musician to continue to the next section without a pause, often used for transitions to lead from one section of music to another.

Segue is a reflection upon periods of transformation and possibility that revalue and shift materials into their next life-cycle of use. The work revisits bedlinen samples designed between 2005 – 2012 while practicing as a commercial textile designer. The samples have been dormant for ten years and destined for landfill. An intervention of design-led and making strategies were enacted to prompt a revaluing of otherwise end-of-life cloth. This approach activated an experience of discovery and uncertainty that propelled the work into a new phase.

The cloth has been pieced, stitched, over-dyed and manipulated to renew and embed sustainable and circular design principles. The piece conveys a sense of ambiguity affording the work to be engaged with in multiple ways.

Segue has been acquired for the Tamworth National Textile Collection purchased with the Tamworth Councils sustainable projects fund.
